Gimlet originally signified a mixture of gin and lime juice. When the gin in the gimlet is replaced by vodka it becomes a vodka gimlet. The name was coined in the year 1928. Gimlet is actually a tool for drilling small holes. The name began being used in reference to the piercing effect it had on its user. Another etymological connection associates it with British Royal Navy Officer Sir Thomas D Gimlette who made this drink popular among his friends saying that it could keep away scurvy. Whatever may be its origin; both gimlet and vodka gimlet are both very popular among men.

How to prepare the perfect vodka gimlet

Gimlets are for all those people who do not want to drink hard alcohol. It is for those who prefer wine, beer and martinis instead of scotch whiskey or rum. So if you are not used to rum and scotch go for a gimlet. It is very tangy to taste and can even prick your taste buds. It is easy to make; you need is 1.5 oz. of Vodka and one ounce of lime juice. You need to mix them properly but this is not all you make the perfect vodka gimlet. You need a lot of precision, from mixing to serving to provide someone the perfect glass of gimlet. Since it is preferred by all those who want to keep it light, you can use Grey goose Vodka. It is smooth and by the time it picks up your nerves you are already in bed! Remember never to keep vodka in the freezer before preparing a gimlet. The vodka must be at room temperature. Regarding the lime juice cordial, you get many in the market but ideally you must use Roses West India Sweetened Lime Juice to make your perfect glass. This adds a sweet taste to your gimlet. Then is the turn of lime. You will need one quarter of it; add the Vodka and lime juice in a shaker and to it add the lime. Shake it for fifteen seconds and let it stand for another ten seconds

Serving the perfect glass of vodka gimlet

Serving a cocktail is an art and it is not everybody’s forte. Take the slice of fresh lime and run it all along the rim of the glass. Then let some salt to get stuck to the wet rim. Let it stand for a while and then pour your drink in it. Your perfect drink should be at the ideal temperature too and be very cautious you do not make it too cold. The drink must be cold to touch yet not chilled. To make your glass even more attractive drop the lime wedges into the drink and serve. Do not stir the drink anymore because then the bitter taste of the lime wedges may spoil your drink.

Never be in a hurry to make your drink. Give it its deserved time but do not leave it for too long. As soon as you take the first sip, the lime on the edges give you a tangy feeling and then the sweet taste of the Vodka gimlet invites you!
